Regarding his comment on fuel economy while in neutral going down a hill or coasting. In Ford trucks with automatic transmissions, his claim is patently false. In a 2006 Ford E350 with a 5.4l, the highest instantaneous fuel economy is between 120-200 mpg (depending on the top speed achieved) when in neutral while when in Drive it is at most 70mpg. This is due the the fact that the fuel is never completely shut off to the injectors and tracks the RPM of the motor. When in Neutral, the engine is at idle while when in Drive it is relative to the speed of the vehicle. I have repeatedly tested this with a diagnostic computer attached while driving.
