@6:12 "With the same people, performing the same routines day in and day out with little contact from the outside world." And how is this different that how the majority of people live now?

"Who needs windows when we can use gigantic screens that mimic a much more pleasant outdoors, or just stream a high quality image of the actual Martian terrain?" I used this technique, sans the gigantic part, in a huge basement renovation project for a surgeon in a 100+ year old house that had very few windows and those that were present were not pleasantly shaped or located. I used relatively inexpensive LED TV's build into the walls that were turned 90 degrees, framed/trimmed to to look like normal windows and fed video from cameras that were mounted on the outside of the house. The whole system is powered by a solar array with battery storage.

Egotistical altruism anthropomorphized == Elon Musk Resources on the planet are limited hence the size of the pie is limited. Most people are too stupid to understand the importance of humanity becoming a multi-planetary species and think we need to spend those limited resources helping every single person instead.

@Steampunkkids If you focused on them or moved (as the image didn't shift the way it should have), you immediately knew it was a screen. The customer was happy, though I did thoroughly explain those limitations before hand. It beat looking at walls with no scenery or with only static details.

People keep their sanity in prison for the most part. Even those who are locked down.

But that 100,000 km was 'settled science' supported by the overwhelming majority of scientists..... People need to really think about that, but I highly doubt they will.

The Fukushima Daiichi reactor meltdown was as much caused by a poorly designed General Electric reactor system and inept training as it was from the tsunami. Technicians in the control room didn't react in a timely manner to the instrument warnings which should have indicated to them to immediately shut down the reactor then another technician closed a critical coolant valve which rapidly accelerated the meltdown.

According to Quantum Theory, it's impossible to know the true nature of reality because making observations of that reality changes it.

I love how hardly anyone mentions the amount of toxic compounds used and created in the manufacture of solar panels. It is NOT a clean technology by any stretch. Not to mention the environmental destruction caused from gathering the materials used to produce them.

@blakekendall5203 You don't need windows. I'll repost a reply I made to an earlier comment. As part of a huge basement renovation project for a surgeon in a 100+ year old house that had very few windows and those that were present were not pleasantly shaped or located. I used relatively inexpensive LED TV's build into the walls that were turned 90 degrees, framed/trimmed to to look like normal windows and fed video from cameras that were mounted on the outside of the house. Taking 245 million people 18+ (2014 data), providing a $12,000 UBI would cost $2.94 TRILLION dollars a year. Add to that the $1.24 TRILLION dollars spent on Medicare/Medicaid because that will continue to be a cost as a $12,000 UBI will not help the medical care situation at all. So you are sitting at $4.18 TRILLION dollars in expenditures. To put that into perspective, the total US expenditures in 2016 was $3.54 TRILLION and that generated a 3.3% increase in the US debt. The Total GDP of the US in 2016 was $16.5 TRILLION, so the UBI's (supporters of UBI) want to take 25% of all the money generated in the US economy and redistribute it. UBI's should be pissed at Obama, Clinton, McCain and all the other politicians who supported going into Libya and taking out Qaddafi as he had a UBI system in place. They also might want to GO to Venezuela to look at how spreading the wealth is working out.
