That is an awesome film. And probably the only film we will ever get to see with Panther jets.

My dad served on USS Shangri La CV-38 in the 60s and said this was a known technique for handling a ship in tight quarters when there was no other option, but they hated to do it because it was very rough on the aircraft engines.

@lilidutour3617 It fascinates me to see how cheapo the US Navy can be about some things while blowing piles of cash on other things. Reminds you that it is a government agency after all lol.

It seems to me that if you need to build a "junior battleship" class you'd be better off building pocket battleships than pre-dreadnaughts.

USS Enterprise has 8 reactors aboard, compared to the 2 aboard Nimitz class ships, so that probably makes her a pretty poor choice for a museum ship in any case. As for removing reactors, I think it'd be cool to install a fake reactor, minus any classified details of course, to make a basic display of how the ship's powerplant worked for the visiting public.

That's a great story. Did it detonate or just kill the cow by collision?

@ScottKenny1978 And they proved pretty useless in practice. Bad for the barrel linings, too, IIRC.

One thing for sure about LCACs is that the enemy probably has no problem hearing them coming, they are so *&%$ing loud lol.
