  1. That's about the same for any technology, peaking just as it's about to be replaced. Piston-engined aircraft such as the P-51 vs. jets, CRT picture tubes vs. flat panel displays, high tech steam locomotives vs. diesel electric, etc.

  2. I met a lot of sailors who didn't "like" to sail on ships lol. And barracks ship is miserable but cheap. Cheap wins over comfort, unless you're in the USAF.
