A good US Army or Marine artillery unit can paint their battery's name in the sky using illumination rounds and time fuses, and they are deadly accurate. As for fire control computing, the tabular and graphical firing tables will do the job, but of course digital computers are today used for fire direction control.

@whlawson5812 Yes, accurate weather, or "met data", is a nice thing to have in artillery. I don't know if or how navies did it in the gunboat days, but modern land artillery units have a variety of ways to get met data. Sometimes, though, you just do your best without and adjust fire based on where your first salvo hits.
