  1. Modern cars and trucks are absolutely built better mechanically. The hard part about keeping them running forever will be electronic parts. You will always be able to buy, or have custom-made, mechanical parts for a 100-year-old car, but manufacturers don't make electronic parts for more than a decade or two, and you need those parts if you're trying to keep it street legal or even original configuration. You can always Mad Max a modern vehicle to keep it running if you know what you're doing but it won't pass inspection anymore.

  2. I live close enough to work, and don't have to drive on a major highway, that I would absolutely drive that thing to work a few times a month if I had it in my garage. Would I take it up Pike's Peak? No. Would I try to drive it 45 miles down a high-speed freeway on bald tires? Hell no. But for going around the block to get groceries it would work. Even more fun would be taking through the McDonalds drive-thru.
