@joshuaortiz2031 And of course there's always the Wuhan Institute of Virology, but I'm sure they're acting in humanity's best interests.

I'm kind of surprised there were no revenge activities among the parents of the lost children.

@MissFetishable 10k can buy a lot of ammo.

@Biden_is_demented Who said it was one missile? "Ballistic missile threat" could mean one or hundreds.

@Shinzon23 Well, we're all dying extremely slowly over the course of several years right now, just getting old. I think I'd go for the Mad Max future myself. Would have to think up a villain name for myself. Toecutter, Humongous, Master Blaster, Immortan Joe are all taken...

In Germany, maybe. Certainly not true in the US. My aunt lived in Pennsylvania and she could nail game with a high powered rifle at over 300 yards in the 1970s. And so could all her neighbors.

FEMA, like most government agencies, is not there to help you, it's there to help itself and the politicians who created and fund it. The CDC does not protect you from Covid, it protects itself from bad publicity. Department of Homeland Security's goal is not to protect the country, it's to enlarge its size and budget while protecting politicians from you.

@Biden_is_demented It doesn't say there's only one. And nobody fires only one missile.
11
@Biden_is_demented My point stands. You are digging your heels in for no good reason. Also, when I was in kindergarten, I learned how to spell kindergarten correctly, so spare us the English lesson.

@bloodyneptune It's not a comment about laws at all, it's about societal perceptions of women and firearms. Try to pay attention.

Before deploying for the 91 Gulf War we all got extra chem weapons training. Saddam had gassed his own citizens recently and we were all convinced that when the shooting started we were gonna get hit with that stuff. We took it pretty seriously.

Somewhere there is a video of a PowerPoint presentation given some years ago by one of the firefighters that was there that night. Very interesting to hear. The ambulance was not permanently abandoned; they parked it out in the desert with McKinley's body in it after he was declared dead because his body was a hazard and the nurse and driver weren't equipped to deal with it yet. Later, after his body was removed and taken to a lab, the ambulance was decontaminated and stayed in service for several years after. One of the guys was wearing a watch and the guy stuck to the roof was wearing a wedding ring. These metal parts were analyzed as part of the investigation to determine the power excursion of the reactor. There is a very good government film on youtube which details the investigation and cleanup of the accident. The amount of information the scientists and engineers were able to gather was very thorough and the brains of those guys is impressive. Sadly, even smart people make mistakes.

Some Israelis have spoken of "The Samson Option", which is a theoretical plan to bring down the rest of the world in the case where the home country is facing extinction; basically holding the world hostage to ensure your own survival. Such a plan would be a good candidate to keep an eye on for cobalt bombs or other doomsday devices. Rational actors need not continue to be rational once they feel they have nothing to lose.

The law is the law and insurance is a business based on contract, not a charity. If you start forcing insurance companies to pay for things they did not agree to cover they will go out of business. As it stands now flood insurance is provided only by the federal government; no private insurance companies offer it.

Able Archer 83 was pretty close, too, we in the West just didn't know it until later.

"The skulls are harder to come by these days." If this channel has taught me anything, it's to wait. Just wait.

Compared to all the other awful injustices happening around the world, you're hard pressed to generate a lot of sympathy for some scumbag drug smugglers who got caught in the act after partying it up on the money they made from it while their victims suffer debilitation and sometimes fatal addiction. Is Indonesia's law unfair? Was there corruption or politicization involved? Is water wet?

I was at Antietam last year and went to the sunken lane, where a photo had been taken of dead bodies stacked up right where I stood. It's just a dirt road again, manicured by the NPS and marked with little signs. But that photo...

This is one of those vids I had to think twice about giving a thumbs up. Sure, you did a great job, but it feels icky giving it a "like".

"We'll talk more about deception detection in a later section." That was perfection, you might win an election or advance yourself by natural selection!

Dead Hand may sound like Skynet at first, but Skynet was an intelligent system that actually knew what it was doing. Dead Hand is a really simple automatic system that probably could be triggered by accident in any number of ways. According to literature on it, the Soviets designed it to be fully automatic but decided to keep humans in the loop because they were scared of it. Also, in the fashion of Dr. Strangelove, they kept the whole thing top secret, thus negating its usefulness as a deterrent system. As the Kinks told us: "Paranoia may destroy ya."

Well, this changes my view of Belgium as Germany's doormat into France, where some decent beer comes from.

It's still a communist dictatorship. I'm sure the people are nice, just not the ones in charge.

@muppet7665 Yes. A virus came from Wuhan, China, where there is a bioweapons lab called Wuhan Institute of Virology. Got it CCP stooge?

One wonders how a country as fucked up and backwards as Russia ever managed to be a superpower. Brute force is the solution to everything.

Watching this and I get an ad for a mattress. Well, I guess that might come in handy...

There is a movie about this called Men Behind the Sun. A few scenes are on youtube. Nightmare fuel.

I was taught about it in school.

GPS was designed, funded, and built specifically by the USAF for use by the US military; no need to act like this is new information. It was used to great effect to monkey stomp the Iraqi army in 1991 and was a huge game changer for the whole world at the time. In the early days they even deliberately muddied up the signal so that civilians could not get the same accuracy as the military, before giving up on that and just letting the general public use it as you do today with your phone or car. But while it's used to target weapons, it is not a weapons system in any way, rather it's a navigational system.

There was an episode of the X-Files where Cigarette Smoking Man was shown in his younger days as an Army SF guy or sniper being recruited to assassinate President Kennedy by some shadowy government organization. After discussing it with them to make sure they had a patsy (Oswald of course) and a plan to get away with it, he nonchalantly agreed on the spot. To kill his own head of state. It was treated as if this sort of thing was routine, and it wasn't too hard to accept it as plausible. Later on, of course, CSM would be in charge of said shadowy organization, and would ensure that the Buffalo Bills never win a Superbowl.
