Of course we all want to drive something nice and roomy and which is also a status symbol. But, no, it is not the consumer's fault that trucks and cars have gone this route. It's squarely the fault of government and lobbyists, pushing all these fuel and safety regulations on the manufacturers. Lots of us want to buy a smaller, simple S-10 or Ranger with a 6 cylinder and no electronic garbage all over it, but we can't. Maybe a station wagon will do the trick? Sorry, can't buy those anymore, either. I'd like to buy a mid-80s F-150 work truck, with maybe A/C as the only luxury, but good luck finding one in decent shape these days. Electric trucks? Only reason those even exist is because government threatens and incentivizes manufacturers to build that garbage. It's even worse when you consider that the Rivian and Cybertruck are physically hideous offenses to the eye.
