The risk of hanging on is not that you can narrow the gap. The risk is that you just make it worse at the polls because people just want rid of you, they've had enough. Just like in 97 with John Major.

@tonywilson4713 Actually similar things were said about labour before they came to power in 97. But we did well under them. The Tories, on the other hand, always claim the economic high ground but what they say and what they do are never the same. Last time inflation was this high was under Thatcher. And recently a Tory minister, I assume a now former Tory minister, admitted that the highest growth figures were under Labour. Considering that we are now seeing a continuation of the Johnson, Truss cockups I would say that anything is better than what we have now.
