  1. I thought the idea of peace being negotiated in 1919 interesting as there was an international peace movement which had gained the backing of US President Wilson. If the Germans had not returned to unrestricted U-Boat warfare and brought America into the war then there is every possibility that peace talks would have brought about an end to the war, which means no Hitler and possibly no Soviet Union. Now that is an alternative history.

  2. Interestingly there was a peace movement which was growing and involved US President Wilson. He was about to announce his involvement in it when the German telegram turned up along with the Germans saying they were going to use unrestricted submarine warfare. There is every likelihood that the peace process would have succeeded as by 1917 Britain and Germany were the only two countries still fighting. Because of the mutinies in the French Army the French would not attack the Germans, though they would defend themselves if attacked. And with the Americans declaring for the peace process the French could no expect help from the US. The US may have even stopped selling arms to both sides. The war would have ground to a halt and peace would have come about in 1918.
