Actually the original Argentinian plan was for the invasion to be later in the year because Margaret Thatcher was getting rid of the carriers Britain had. But things were turning from bad to worse for the Argentinian government at home so, out of what can only be described as a blind panic, the invasion was brought forward. So they invaded with Britain still owning the carriers. And if it was not for the British admiral telling Thatcher that she had to do something, her and John Nott the defense minister were running around like a couple of wet hens, they would have gotten away with it.
