@psikogeek I doubt it. As it says in the song "anything you can do I can do better." So everyone else would have been building their own, better, version. But the other problem was that naval air power was the big thing is WW2. You can have as many big guns as you like and as much belt armour as you want but a bomb dropping through your deck was going to ruin your day. Yes they could have thickened the deck armour, but improving bombs was easier then then constantly upgrading the deck armour. And acoustic torpedoes like those used by the Germans would have stopped it dead in the water. The problem then is that having built the ship there is a tendency to keep it out of harms way. It has cost you much in time, effort, money and resources and you are loathed to put it at risk. So it just sits there unused. And remember what happened to the Tirpitz.
