  1. What is it with walls and the human urge to write or paint, or whatever, on them. We all know about cave paintings but several years ago there was a major find in a valley in Spain which had a number of cave paintings. Soil near the river had been washed away and it was discovered that not only was there prehistoric cave paintings but that these extended to the low cliff walls running along the river valley. As for the abandoned site dating from 1400. My thoughts are that what is know as the Little Ice Age began in the previous decade which meant the average yearly temperatures were lower. And from what I remember that area of America suffered from draught because the weather patterns had changed so much.
