I have seen a documentary on the K19, but not the film, so I knew what happened to the boat and its crew. Yes, at the time they were our undeclared enemies, but you have to admire their courage. Especially those who went into the reactor knowing what it would do to them.

writerconsidered I understand what you are saying but I was referring more to the fact that no formal declaration of war was made which resulted in open conflict between NATO and the Warsaw Pact countries. No T62s, T64s or T72s came charging through the Fulda Gap at any time. For the most part sanity prevailed, though there were points were it came pretty close. And you are so right about it being the last war. Considering the effect it would have had on the planet the unlucky ones would have been the survivors. One thing I did find interesting was the Russian plans for such a war. Apparently they had a defensive line across Poland which would have been occupied by the Poles with the Russians in the rear. The idea was that the Poles would be sacrificed to NATO and then the Russians would counter attack and drive back NATO. It's nice to know who your friends are.

Can I suggest a subject for one of your videos. On March 16, 1914 Henriette Caillaux shot and fatally wounded Gaston Calmette, editor of the newspaper Le Figaro. He was a political rival of her husband Joseph Caillaux and Calmette threatened to expose the fact that Henriette and Joseph were having an affair while still married to their previous spouses. They both had claimed otherwise. I think you will find it interesting for several reasons. The trial was such a sensational event that it obscured what was happening elsewhere in the world. The verdict was reached just four days before WW1, something most of the French had missed. Then the war itself obscured the trial to history. It was also interesting because despite claims to the contrary it exposed the fact that French society still viewed women as emotionally weaker, something Henriette Caillaux exploited to her own advantage.
