There being no pirates in this story is true. But we all know that those who served on destroyers are part pirate at heart.

Interesting story but as but ships are shes I doubt if the resulting ship can be regarded as hermaphrodite as this would mean one had to be male and one female.

In both world wars many more of the smaller ships were needed, rather then the bigger ships such as battleships, so they received priority, with many of the larger ships either not being built or delayed. So it would make sense to utilise the hulls of the two damaged ships rather then scrap them. Interestingly Jacky Fisher gave the world HMS Dreadnought, the worlds first true battleship. The most powerful ship afloat at that time and making all other big ships obsolete. Yet by the end of the century it was gone. Replaced by the likes of the carrier and the submarine. But of which served in WW1. Ironically HMS Dreadnought is the only battleship credited with sinking a submarine by ramming.

I understand why they do it but it is a bit hard to think of it in the present tense when your talking about a battle fought 2000 years ago. It's not like they are checking out the battle field on Google Earth.
