Once again you present us with a nugget of history to which I thank you. You have to wonder how people like him and Thomas Jefferson can proclaim all men are born equal yet at the same time keep slaves. And not just them. If you go back several hundred years even the pope kept slaves. But there is an old northern English saying that "there's nowt as queer as folk (there is nothing as strange as people) sums it up.

@TheHistoryGuyChannel Though by this time England did not have slavery, some slave owners maintained the freed slaves would go insane. So keeping them as slaves was good for their mental wellbeing. We know this because one Church of England clergyman, who claimed to be against slavery, wrote about it and believed what he had been told. Not sure which was worse. That people would stoop so low as to justify slavery or that others believed such obvious falsehoods. But as Lincoln said, you can fool some of the people all of the time.
