Can I just point out that the US copied the kepi from the French. I know that is not what you intended to say but I just want to clarify. Before the American Civil War at least one French unit toured America giving a matching display and many people were so impressed by it that local troops were given similar uniforms to those warn by the French.   2.  @TheHistoryGuyChannel  This is true. I was just pointing out the American origins of its use in order to clarify the situation. As Algeria was under French control that is where they copied the style from.
