Over the years I have read many accounts of various raids during WW2 and from what I have learned I would class this one as a success. Yes there were problems but as the say about military plans they do not survive contact with the enemy. And the important thing is they adapted to the situation and carried on. And equally as important lessons were learned for the next time. During WW2 the US armies Rangers were originally trained by the British armies commandos and part of that training was to cross a river using a rope suspended above it. While doing this an NCO throw grenades into the river to simulate being under fire. A US Ranger said they would not use this method as the river they planned to use was full of alligators.
