Not heard of the Antebellum period before so it was interesting to to hear about it. Though thinking on you may have mentioned it when you covered the New York riots. Nor had I heard of the Shakespear riot before now. So thanks for that. From what I know about Victorian London I could see similar things happening here if it was reversed. People like the costermongers where noted for their loudness and flashy dress and for being ready to do battle with anyone. Not much different from New Yorkers I should think. In fact several costermonger comedians toured America and at least one made a big success of it. Obviously they had something in common.

@NefariousKoel It is a hugely important period in European history as well but again most of it is missed. Shame really as it had such an important impact on our lives.
