The term Privy is still used when referring to the toilet. When telling someone where you are going you say 'I'm just of to the privy.' Someone did some research in the 16th century into wiping the 'nether region' and came to the conclusion that the best way to wipe the 'nock hole', as he called it, was with a gooses neck. Not only did is clean the the 'nock hole' but was very soft. This could make for an interesting advertising campaign. 'Next time you wipe your nock hole use our toilet paper. Better then a gooses neck.' There is a saying that something is the best thing since sliced bread. Meaning that a machine for slicing bread was the best invention. But the sliced bread machine was not a great success and it took another invention to make it the success it became. Definitely history that deserves to be remembered.
