  1. What a delightful and interesting story. It reminded me of the Yorkshire Giant, William Bradley, who was born in the town of Market Weighton in the East Riding of Yorkshire. He lived between 10 February 1787 and 30 May 1820 and stood at 7 feet 9 inches. He was even presented before King George III at Windsor who gave him a large golden watch on a chain, which he wore for the rest of his life. As with Robert Wadlow fears of graverobbing led to him being buried inside the church in Market Weighton. Every May since 1996 Market Weighton holds a festival, the Giant Community Day, in memory of William Bradley. It is a family-oriented event with games, amusement rides, stalls and other attractions.

  2. I forgot to mention. In J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy world Middle-earth Ents are mentioned. Ent is the Old English word for a giant.
