Not heard of Mary Edwards Walker but she sounds like someone I would have liked to have met. I find it odd that she had her Medal of Honor was removed because she was a civilian in a combat situation, while a US Navy officer received one for helping rescue people involved in a hotel fire and not in a combat situation. Have you come across Noel Chavasse. He was a surgeon who served in the First World War and one of only three people to have won the Victoria Cross twice and both in the same war. Like Mary he would go out into no-mans-land to help the wounded. He was wounded himself a number of times while rescuing the wounded, the last time fatally. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noel_Godfrey_Chavasse Interestingly of the other two who won two Victoria Crosses twice one was Lt. Col. Arthur Martin-Leake, also a doctor. He won his first in the Boer and his second in WW 1. Here's a quiz for you. In the 1920s a British soldier received the Medal of Honor, posthumously. While an American soldier received the Victoria Cross. Also posthumously and also in the 20s. Can you name either of them?
