A British sculptor cause a scandal during the Victorian period with a discovery about Roman marble figures which he decided to incorporate in his next work. For many years is was thought that the Romans displayed the figures in the natural marble. But then it was discovered they did, in fact, paint the figures. So this sculptor made a marble figure of a woman in the Roman style and then painted her as the Romans would have. Seeing a naked woman in marble was acceptable because it was regarded as artistic. But to see her naked and painted to represent skin colour was, in the minds of some, a scandal and deffinatelly not art. The sculptor was quickly removed from display and, I believe, was sold. Hopefully to someone who appreciated art.

@vitabricksnailslime8273 Well the Victorians were also against slavery so he would not have been for sale.

@mathewkelly9968 The Romans also sculpted statues out of marble and painted them. Hope that helps.
