From 1966 to 1967 I used to listen to Radio 270 of the coast near Scarborough. I was very young at the time but it was great fun. Interesting you mentioned the bombing of Liverpool which often claims to be the most bombed city other then London. This is not correct. My home town of Kingston upon Hull on the East Coast was the most bombed, other then London, with over 90% of its buildings receiving some damage from bombing. One of the reasons for this is that being on the East Coast Hull is easier to find then Liverpool, which required the Germans to fly over England and navigation was very primitive. They did have a navigation aid which used two radio beams to guide their bombers but we found a way to effect the signal so it lost accuracy. And the further it had to fly the less accurate is became. Later during the war a number of very seccessful decoy schemes were introduced around the country which made it even harder to find their target at night.
