Comments by "Big Blue" (@bigblue6917) on "History of the Toga and the \"Gens Togata\"" video.
The toga was not usually an everyday item of clothing worn by the masses, they usually wore tunics. In some conquered nations some of the locals would wear a toga to show how Romanized they had become. Ironically the Romans themselves often laughed at such people. You will, I am sure, have seen photographs and paintings of men with their hand inside their jacket, waistcoat, pocket et cetera. This goes back to Aeschines, founder of the rhetoric who suggested that speaking with an arm outside one's toga was bad manners. Later in eighteenth century British portraiture as a sign of the sitter's breeding and the pose denoted "manly boldness tempered with modesty."

If you think of how much material was involved you could probably wear one better then a thin person.
