  1. It's often missed but this was the first defeat for Germany. Their aim was to destroy the RAF, something they failed to do. Hitting London in daylight was a huge mistake. The Me-109 was at its limit for range and if the bombers took too long the fighters had the choice of leaving the bombers unescorted or run out of fuel. Plus Goring told the fighter escort to fly closer to the bombers and the only way to do that and keep their speed up was to weave across the sky. And this used up even more fuel. So once the fighters left the RAF could attack the bombers without being concerned about German fighters. And the German fighters, being low on fuel tried to avoid contact with the RAF before they got over the Channel.
