I did know about Magellan and the fact that he did not make it back. But how he died was something I did not know. How many leaders have died by underestimating their enemy. Sir Frances Drake's circumnavigation of the world affected English law. When he sailed around the world the problem for the sailors families was that they did not know if the sailors were alive or dead. So wives did not know if they were married or widows. When Drake arrived back after three years it was determined that three years would be the requirement for deciding if the men were dead or not and therefore their wives could be declared widows. This also meant she was free to remarry. Just imagine if the husband was not dead and walked in on his wife with her new husband. "Look at you" he declares, "I'm away for three years and a day and you jump into bed with anther man." :)

Dave Druid you cannot blame the entire continent of Europe for mistakes made by one person. \Many others would not have made that mistake.
