The US Navy was told were the bomb had hit the water off Spain by the local but they thought they knew better so ignored him. But eventually they had to get him to show them where it had landed and sure enough there it was. As a child I used to watch the British Royal Air force's Vulcan bombers fly over, they were based in Lincolnshire to the south. I used to watch these huge white triangles fly to and from their bases. I sometimes heard them fly over at night time when I was in bed and, oddly enough when you realised what they would be carrying if we went to war, I always felt safe knowing they were there.

You have to wonder what he was going to do with it if he had salvaged it.

Matt Boggs Now you would probably stick it on eBay or Craigslist.

Never saw the Valiant fly. The one and only time I saw the Victor was in Norfolk when one suddenly flew just over my car. Fortunately I was parked at the side of the road at the time so I was able to watch it fly to its airfield. Years ago I worked for British Aerospace's airfield at Holme on Spalding Moor in East Yorkshire and one day we had a Vulcan doing circuit and bumps. I was stood some distance from the runway but each time it powered up to takeoff again I could feel not only the air around me vibrate but my entire body vibrated. I think the power to weight ratio was something like three to one which is why it could do acrobatics.

Forgot to mention. Not only did the stop the Chrome Dome but SAC has gone as well.

I happened to Google SAC several months ago, I think it was when you posted the video on the Titan missile explosion, as I was curious about what it was doing these days. I must of missed the fact that it was decommissioned way back in 1992. Something else I got sorted was that the film Strategic Air Command was the James Stewart film from 1955. I confused it with the 1963 film A Gathering of Eagles with Rock Hudson and Rod Taylor.
