I think it was something a little stronger then Red Bull

Apparently the US has just removed Wakanda from their list of countries they will trade with.

The number of people killed or wounded by a bayonet is tiny. Something like 0.01% of all casualties are caused by bayonets. And that has not changed since the American Civil War. Soldier prefer to shoot the enemy because it's safer then trying to stab them with a bayonet. For one thing they may well be trying to kill you at the same time. In WW1 when the British Troops were ordered to fix bayonets and charge the enemy but most would sooner shoot them instead.

I did read that the problem with the USAF not having guns on their fighter jets was due to the Top Brass being ex WW2 bomber crewmen with no understanding about dogfighting. This was also why fighter pilots were allotted such little time for training in dogfighting. And why, despite having an F for fighter designation, the F-105 is nothing more then a glorified high speed bomber. I understand that the late General Robin Olds had a number of run-ins with the Top Brass because they thought the days of the dogfighter were over.

Just thinking the same thing.

The guy on the button uses his fingers to do the countdown. Big hand there for Jimmy Threefingers

I used to work for British Aerospace and they were involved with the British version of the Phantom. I watch one fly off one day with someone from Marconi in the back seat. They were testing some new equipment. Anyway when they came back the test pilot decided to put on a bit of a show, including flying at tree top height down one side of the runway, then climbing vertically before looping over to the other side of the runway, diving down before pulling out at tree top height again then landing. The man from Marconi looked distinctly green around the gills. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of the test pilot but I was told he was the first to land the Blackburn Buccaneer onto an aircraft carrier. This was in conditions which the other three test pilots, who flew other Buccaneers that day, made landing to difficult. I believe he would now be referred to as old school.

If Margaret Thatcher had got it right and allowed Westland to teamed up with Sikorsky instead of Augusta the British Armed Forces would have been flying British built Black Hawks. After all Westland had a long history with Sikorsky dating back to the 50s with the H-34 and the H-19. I did read that Westland built more Sea Kings then Sikorsky, we liked them so much.

@SaugusZouave In an actual combat situation during WW1 British soldiers would sooner shoot an enemy rather then stab him with a bayonet. Even with a bayonet fixed. Shooting someone is one thing. Actually stabbing that person is totally different. And there is a good possibility that you do not kill your opponent, or incapacitate them sufficiently to stop them being a threat. As for rifles being inefficient part of that is down to training such as not blazing away with you M16 over top of a wall while you remain hidden behind it. Instead use controlled fire and make sure your aiming at a target. This is why so much effort has been put in to making sure the rifle has better sights. And they also found that most of the killing is done by just a handful of people. The rest, as mentioned, were just shooting in the general direction of the enemy. Which is why training has changed in many armies. Your praise for the bayonet while pointing out how wasteful of rifles would suggest a return to using the spear. It would save a fortune in lead. 😊 Please take that last remark with the humour it was intended.

I have wondered about the idea of using something like this in Operation Market Garden using the universal carrier as the base. It would have been a lot more useful then the little tanks they were given. Though it never went into service the British Army was working on a man portable recoiless rifle which would have used the 25 pdr shell. It could be launched resting on your shoulder same way as a Bazooka. That would have been a surprise for the Germans.

Watching this I was thinking got jobs at Ford's. I thought that because I remembered about the Lockheed C-5 being accepted into the USAF despite its problems. There was a big show put on for the press with the C-5 going to do a demonstration of its capabilities, only to have part of the undercarriage fall off during takeoff. The airforce general there to meet the press made excuses for what happened and then went off to a nice job with Lockheed. Unfortunately the C-5 was chosen to help with the US leaving Viet Nam and one crashed just after takeoff killing all on board. Including some one hundred plus very young children.

I know they have said that the F35 will be carrying out the close air support role, but should you really be using a one hundred million dollar aircraft for asymmetric warfare. Especially considering how much downtime they need for maintenance after each flight. To put it simply this is using a Rolls Royce to deliver a pizza.

@katey1dog not like they need the practise.

Must be the Month of the Missile as The Tank Museum's Tank Chats has just done a video on the Humber Hornet. It carried the Malkara, an anti-tank guided missile. Object 287 looks like they were trying to achieve too much with too little, and most of it untested.

Talk about shitting a brick. I thought you guys were taught field craft. Wiping your arse on a Bear Grills or something.

Just watching this and I thought it looked like a giant water tank. Which is somewhat ironic as the name tank came from the code name for the first British tank which was 'water tank for Russia,' which got shortened to just tank. Makes you wonder if the designers of these vehicles had a secret desire to be plumbers.

Back in the 80s a USN F14 Tomcat was taking part in an exercise in Europe when it came across an A10 which was an opposition aircraft. So the Tomcat pilot though 'oh good, an easy kill' and went down after the A10. Only to find the A10 stand on its wing, turned and coming straight for the Tomcat. At this point he decide discretion was the better part of valour and got the hell out of there. Tomcats did seem to have a problem with ground attack aircraft. In another exercise in Europe two Tomcats came across two British Royal Air Force Sepecat Jaguars below them and one decided to go down for an easy kill, only to be jumped by two more Jaguars following behind. Seeing his friend in trouble the second Tomcat went in to help only for him in turn to be jumped by two more Jaguars. Jaguars 2 Tomcats 0

I am surprised they are getting rid of the tiltrotor aircraft as I thought this was important to the marine corps future. I did see that they were trying to persuade the US Navy to adopt them.

You have to wonder about the thinking, or otherwise, behind what YouTube is doing. Especially when you consider that there is talk of Amazon setting up a rival service.

The thing we missed here is that the soldier of the future is a clone.

Russia is not building more T-14s, or the latest jets, because they cannot afford to. The Russian economy is no bigger then that of Italy, but with over twice as many people. So, to put it in its simplest terms, less money to go around. And they are suffering a brain drain. So all those who could help the economy have left to work elsewhere. Yes you will see all of these vanity projects where they have one tank, or one jet, or one missile, but that is for domestic consumption as the rest of the world knows they cannot afford any more.

Just a thought. Grandchildren and great grandchildren of both the Tu-95 and the B52 original crews can be flying these aircraft today.

Definitely a life worth living. RIP
