I used to work for British Aerospace and they were involved with the British version of the Phantom. I watch one fly off one day with someone from Marconi in the back seat. They were testing some new equipment. Anyway when they came back the test pilot decided to put on a bit of a show, including flying at tree top height down one side of the runway, then climbing vertically before looping over to the other side of the runway, diving down before pulling out at tree top height again then landing. The man from Marconi looked distinctly green around the gills. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of the test pilot but I was told he was the first to land the Blackburn Buccaneer onto an aircraft carrier. This was in conditions which the other three test pilots, who flew other Buccaneers that day, made landing to difficult. I believe he would now be referred to as old school.
