I do know about the origins of the hand inside a jacket or waistcoat going all the way back to Aeschines and the restriction of one hand. My interest in this came about because I have seen Victorian group photographs where the most senior man in the photograph placed his hand inside his jacket. I remembered about Napoleon and wonder if he was the originator or whether it predated him Although Aeschines talked about the restriction of one hand it is interesting that he actually restricted his arm and has left his hand exposed.
