  1. Before WW1 a railway company in Britain painted its passenger locomotives royal blue. But when the war broke out this colour was requisitioned by the Royal Navy for the dazzle camouflage. This meant that the passenger locomotives were left painted in their undercoat, which, ironically, was battleship grey.
