  1. It looks like the reason Russia has had to dig out the old T-62s is because those in command of the various tank parks were selling off the better T-72s on the black market. So not only are Russian troops having to use older and very much outdated tanks they even cheated the Russian state the money it would have received from those sales.

  9. Russia may have all that oil be the rely on non Russian oil companies to extract it. And with a number of the oil fields shutting down it will take some 20 years to get them running again.

  13. China could gain from the collapse Russia. China has for some time looked at reclaiming Vladivostok which was once Chinese and called Yongmingcheng. With the end of Russia as it is now China would find regaining this land much easier.

  16. If you go back to the time when Russia still had a royal family the Romanov's were the wealthiest people in the world. Their wealth was built the fur trade and the exploitation of the the people of Siberia. It did not require any cleverness on their part as everyone who was not anyone was there to be brutally abused, which they did. The reason Russia had to sell off Alaska is because the man sent to run it decided to mistreat the Alaskans the same way they would mistreat the Siberians. When the Alaskans stopped trading with the Russians it all fell apart. Ironically the Russian government agent who ran Alaska before then until his death would always treat the natives fairly which is why it had done so well for Russia. So apart from the name of the leader very little is different.

  17. The problem with being willing to expend as many lives a necessary to achieve a victory in Ukraine is that the Russian population is in decline being only some 50% bigger than France. Whereas in the past Russians had large families this is no longer the case as Russians can no longer afford to have such large families. The Russian losses in Ukraine along with the demonstration of how poorly led and equipt the Russian military is is having an effect on other members in the Russian Federation and a further decline in Russia could lead to them also seeking separation from Russia. Crimea along with the rest of Ukraine is now looking more like Putin's Achilles leading to the end of the Russian Federation rather than his reassembly of the old Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact.
