  1. The problem with being willing to expend as many lives a necessary to achieve a victory in Ukraine is that the Russian population is in decline being only some 50% bigger than France. Whereas in the past Russians had large families this is no longer the case as Russians can no longer afford to have such large families. The Russian losses in Ukraine along with the demonstration of how poorly led and equipt the Russian military is is having an effect on other members in the Russian Federation and a further decline in Russia could lead to them also seeking separation from Russia. Crimea along with the rest of Ukraine is now looking more like Putin's Achilles leading to the end of the Russian Federation rather than his reassembly of the old Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact.
