Considering what China is planning with regards to Taiwan I would think that the idea of a negotiated outcome is not always China's first choice.

@ShadowebEB I very much agree. What my remarks were aimed at, and something I am sure you picked up on, was the hypocrisy of China's position with regards to Russian and Ukraine negotiating a settlement. We all know what it took to carry out the D-Day landings in Normandy. And we had the advantage over the Germans because we convinced them that Normandy was a faint and the real landing would be Calais. China has no chance of taking Taiwan.

Some are predicting the total collapse of Russia with the break up of what remains of the Russian empire. If that happens how quick would China be at taking back land such as Vladivostok which used to Chinese land. In recent times many in China have been talking about taking the land back. I did notice Victor Gao took the opportunity to point out that China's economy was ten times the size of Russia's. In the past when both were still communist countries China was usually seen as the junior partner.
