I was surprised with the idea of a surface to air missile as this would be obvious and would limit what Putin could say about what happened.

@robertlopez9347 That is still a subject of speculation. And the aircraft which exploded was being followed by another one of his jets which turned back when it saw what happened to the first one.

@5cloudwalker I must admit that did cross my mind when I first saw the video. But let's not forget he had a number of apartments bombed in Moscow just so he could restart the Chechen war

@Trebor74 Putin tends to spend a lot of time pondering these things so the answer is probably yes. Having said that he usually gets it wrong once he does decided.
