  1. I think the last tory who resigned as a matter of honour was Lord Carrington over the Falklands, even though Margaret Thatcher said he did not need to. Interestingly the then defence minister John Nott also offered his resignation but when Margaret Thatcher also told him he did not have to did not resign. Apparently he was fine with living in abject humiliation as long as he kept his job.
