  1. When you look at the casualty figures it worth remembering that the Russian population has been in decline since WW2 and is now only about 50% bigger than the population of France. So you can imagine what an impact these loses will have. And before the invasion of Ukraine its economy was the same size as that of Italy. What with all the sanctions and the end of the gas and oil exports to Europe Russia's economy will be well below that of Italy.
