Actually half your fellow countrymen, and women, are tea drinkers. Once they got the hang of it, and realised you did not need to throw it into Boston Harbour to get the best flavour, they quite took to drinking tea. Me. I am British but I am with you on the coffee. Unless it's Earl Grey tea of course. 👍😄

Actually it is better if the water is just off the boil for the best flavour. The idea of having the water boiling when poured into the teapot came about in WW2 because the quality of tea was not at its best and boiling water improved what little quality there was. If you are using a good quality coffee, not instant, then having the water just off the boil stops the ground coffee being scolded and also gives a better flavour. Putting the milk in first dates back to the 18th century and it was supposed to stop thermal shock causing cracks in porcelain tea cups when the hot water hits the cup. The milk reduced the temperature of the tea when it was poured into the cup just enough to stop the excessive heat damaging the cup.
