I knew about Fairburn and his connection with the Shanghai Police and his later connection with the Special Forces. The Fairbairn–Sykes fighting knife is often referred to as the Commando Knife. My late uncle had one of these when he was in the commandos and in fact may have used it on a raid when his gun jammed. Fortunately the German officers gun also jammed and my uncle killed him.
