  1. Actually I think the British may have been the first to buy the M16. It was used by special forces, SAS, SBS and in jungle warfare. They ordered 10,000 of them. If the USAF was first then the British Army did get it before the US Army. Britain did adopt the FN SLR when America went for the M14 and I have seen a number of videos on YouTube explaining why the US should of but didn't adopt the FN SLR. Still could not shake off the M1. Both the M1 and M14 were very good weapons but from another era.
