As a quick guess this is old footage cut in or they've done the old Soviet trick of a look-a-like.

What is needed is for Russians to know what real democracy is about.

Their new general was there less than 24 hours before he was wounded. Just imagine if you are a Russian soldier on the ground in Ukraine and you see that your side cannot even protect your own generals. How safe are you going to feel.
159
The last Tzar of Russia, Tzar Nicholas II, took personal control of the fighting in WW1. That did not end well for him. Someone should remind Putin that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I have a feeling he will be wanting to keep a low profile for some time.

@ko_mhe_ha_bbi5354 You've got to stop swallowing that crap. It's not good for you.

@askedkedeldeif As some 40% of Russia's tank loses in Ukraine are the latest and most up to date version of the T-72, despite making up only some 20% of the Russian tank force, the evidence does not support that idea. They have sent in their best and it has done little good for them. Besides who would send in their weakest forces to lead an invasion. That would not make any sense militarily. And let's not forget that they used the 331st Guards Parachute Regiment at the beginning of the war. And they are supposed to be the best of the best. That is the regiment which not only failed to take their assigned target, a Ukrainian airfield, but also lost their colonel as well. We all looked at them and thought of the old Soviet Union military. But Russia has been in economic decline even before the Soviet Union collapsed. And it has been going downhill ever since. Economic cutbacks have led to a steep decline in all areas of Russian life. Where is the much vaunted T-14. There should have been 2,300 in service by now. They are now saying they will not enter service until 2025. There are a number of reasons why they are not in service and will not be for some time, if ever. One is simply the Russia's economy cannot afford them. Another reason is that cutbacks in education means they are having to buy most of the parts from abroad because they have no more engineers to make the parts themselves. They have had to shut down the tank factory where they are made because they do not have anything to make new ones. Not even the T70s. And let's not forget the sales of Russian aircraft have fallen through because things like the engines are very poor and the radar is about 30 years out of date. Turns out the Russian military is not, as we thought, ten feet tall. In fact they are struggling to look four feet tall. It turns out that the Russian bear is a paper tiger.

Setting aside the fact that this person does not want to give his life to the glory Czar Vladimir the Impaler, kudos on that, I find it more than a little interesting that in a time of computers, tablets and smartphones Russia is still keeping paper records.
16
Actually after WW2 some army surplus tank hulls were used in the UK as replacements for tractors. So not the first time farmers have had tanks.

@terrycoontz We talk of generational differences but this has got to be so much more pronounced in Russia. All the young Russian soldiers, sailors and airmen in the armed forces today were born some twenty to twenty-five years ago, after the collapse of the USSR. So they are part of today's world. Whereas many of the senior officers were born either in the Soviet Union or just after when the old Soviet system was still present. So each has a very different outlook on the world. Which is why were are seeing soldiers deserting or refusing to fight. Even members of the much vaunted Spetsnaz are refusing to fight. Now we can see that whatever the generals were trying it has not worked.

@hdlkm1145 Actually Russia's economy is much worse than Germany's. Russia's economy was worse than Italia's but has a population two and a half times that of France. And the French economy is much better than Russia's. If run properly there is no reason for it to be a very good economy. But with rampant corruption, very poor levels of education and some of the highest levels of alcoholism of any country, one in four Russians will die of alcohol related health problems before they are 60, that is not going to happen.

@jimduffield7822 It looks at the moment like this may be delayed as the weather has slowed down the movement of Russia's reinforcements. There is a lot of heavy rain in the area which will make if very difficult for Russia's armoured vehicles to move.

And I'm sure we all wish him well

@GT-ox3pe Please check out my reply to AB as I have made a few points as to why I do not think Russia is keeping their best for later. I would be interested to know your thoughts. I think China has enough troubles of their own at the moment as their economy is facing many problems. Also as Russia has stirred up quite a hornets nest it is not looking good for China's invasion of Taiwan which they planned to carry out in the next five years. And they will be less than happy that all of this has caused the US send Patriot missiles to Taiwan. The other thing to remember is that, unlike Russia, China is a world economy and so they would have a lot to lose if they get hit by sanctions. You only have to look at how hard Huawei has been hit by sanctions.

@maxros8102 Actually I was thinking more Dark Helmet from Spaceballs. There both about the same height. Though Rick Moranis is funnier.
3
the National Guard is doing well. They ran back to the Russian border much faster than anyone else.
3
@venator5 I understand what you are saying but I don't think they would have them record there. They would be kept elsewhere and probably at some military facility. This looks more like a local office where they would have the records for people being coscripted.
3
@massimo625 40% of Russia's tank loses are their latest T-72s and they only make up some 20% of the tanks being used. And militarily not using your best troops would not be a good idea if your aim is to get a quick victory
2
That sounds fine to me.
2
Karma is having a field day with the Russian army.
2
@edwhitson9873 considering how much this war is costing Russia then no he is not smart.
2
As they say, what goes around comes around. And this time with a vengeance.
2
Here's a thought for Russia. Give up the thugs life and live in peace with your neighbours. That way they would not need to join NATO.
2
@Terribly_Grimm Well it's not got any better that's for sure.
1
@khiem1939 Definitely.
1
@chrisgoldie5577 That should be more worrying than what is happening in Ukraine at the moment. But we can understand why Ukraine is the priority.
1
@alanmalcheski8882 Does your mother know your up this late. Slava Ukrainia Слава Украине
1
Britain has a submarine at sea at this moment which is armed with nuclear missiles pointed at Russia. The may not be as fast as the Russian missiles, assuming that the Russian missiles actually work, but they will still destroy large parts of Russia. And Russia knows this.
1
Just before the sanctions of foreign currencies hit Russians were quing to get Dollars. When they were told the bank had no more Dollars half the que walked away saying who wants Rubles. And that was at the start. Now Putin it threatening to cut of oil and gas, like his economy isn't suffering enough, when everyone else is saying we are stopping the import of Russian oil and gas.

Mummy and daddy are sending him to bed because he has been a very naughty little boy.

Crap Russian Satnav
1
@meatrealwishes Monarchs are not supposed to lead army as they are not trained to do that. That is what the generals and marshals are for. It also means that if it all goes wrong the general is replaced and not you.
1
@holymelon8011 That is worse the Russian democracy
1
@helmutboutros5006 It is what Ukraine practises. Which is why Putin, a dictator, hates it.
1
@jbradley920rox Wanna bet
1
@christophercolumbus1327 You a Putin supporter then
1
Putin says a ban on its oil would have “catastrophic consequences” for the global economy. Putin crying wolf now he realises that he is not going to get away with invading Ukraine
1
@alexnikishin1354 Even the Russians in Donbass do not want Putin. As soon as the invasion started they went west. Whatever their feelings about Ukraine they do not want to be part of Russia. Even the Russians in Kaliningrad have declared independence from Russia. No one want to be ruled by Putin.
1
@jediknight5600 Tell that to all the colonels who are also with the general when he gets hit. That's why things are falling apart in the Russian army.
1
@metaleuman I hate to say this but that's how you get quotes. Someone makes it up. even if that someone is the person who says it. But, as you say, a good quote is a good quote.
1
This shows how bad things are for the Russians. The top generals should not be near the fighting. They are supposed to be further back directing the war. But with things going this wrong it means they are having to go to the front lines to deal with all the problems.
1
MaryKate's Pajamas It does look like that. Says a lot about Russian technology
