  17. I was around in the 1970s and heard precisely the same jingoistic CCP talking points being spruiked to the Chinese people .. and to the world. China was different then of course. One might think that the CCP apparatchiks would develop more sophisticated propaganda. They haven't because tribal fear and xenophobia still works perfectly as means of control. Just like the zero covid policy, not sure how they are going to dial it down this time.

He is really just a Vaudeville act who is able to strut on the world stage by virtue of his position, rather than any talent. Hu is essentially a highly paid elite wumao from whom the down-in-the-dirt wumao take their leads. His job is provide the talking points and confected outrage. Meanwhile, real journalists are being detained and persecuted in Hong Kong and everywhere in China.

Understanding the dynamic and vital nature of the capitalism/democracy/freedom/western tradition combo, is like trying to understand quantum mechanics; mostly impossible, even for those who think they do.

Rubio is now also wounded by Trump's stupid claims about ending the war in 24 hours. The problem remains Trumpie. He's becoming demented and his capacity to calculate risk is diminishing fast. He'll hurt a lot of other people (and the country) before his time is up.
