Well, Sterling was one of the very few players given a decent run of games by Mr. Defence Southgate. In the very limited games where Grealish was even allowed to participate, let alone in a team with instructions to attack the opposition, he was very effective. He also passes to his teammates rather than trying to hog the ball and run into a wall of opposition players only to get dispossessed (which was Sterling's masterplan for most of the tournament).

@JamesCM86 I meant "one of the very few (attacking) players" ... Since England's team was so defence-laden throughout the majority of the tournament. Grealish barely got a start, let alone a sub appearance for most of the tournament. Just a few minutes here and there, whereas Sterling was given almost every game. However, you obviously rate Mr Southgate's management style and football knowledge as being superior to that of Pep Guardiola's ... since the latter obviously feels that Grealish is a player that is badly needed (enough to spend £100m for him) in a team that already has your idol Raheem Sterling. Gareth 'bottle-merchant' Southgate, the manager whose wise football mind led him to substitute his own substitute in Jack Grealish (the current most expensive English player ever). Great judgement shown there. Yes, Gareth and yourself are clearly far more knowledgeable about football than Pep is. That must be it.
