  2. And according to studies fossil fuel cars kill more than million people per year due to pollution (maybe even a lot more), not to mention the impact on poor countries of climate change. This cobaly mining of Congo isn't a problem of EV's, it is a problem of local labour laws (or rather lack there of). This is something that Congo needs to fix, not the EV industry or the western world. Hell, considering Chinese companies are so active there as you say here, the west can't even really do much to pressure these companies. Also as demand for cobalt increases, it increases the likelyhood that more and more mining will get professionalized to increase output and profit, manual mining isn't really that efficient to start with.
