The western view that the Eastern front is full of myths is somewhat of a myth. The reason that the stories and facts related to the Soviet contibutions are not widely known is the fact that immediately after WW2 the Cold War started. Everything Soviet was taboo in western society. In addition there was not a free flow of information between the two partys. Historical information about that part of the war was really only available from the German perspective.
