@CrysResan Remember one thing, although there many intelligent and dedicated members of the military. You also have the other end of that spectrum. Not everybody is above average. Everybody gets firearms in the military.

Smith and Wesson had them on the Model 59 series also. It was a metal bar that could be removed. Most police forces who used them did. For most military units the weapon staying on safe and not firing is as important as them firing repeatedly for long periods of time. Weapons are not exactly handled under the best of conditions.
