Under successive authoritarian/totalitarian regime, Russia has been on the wrong side of humanity since the late 19th century. The days of Peter the Great are long gone. Putinist Russia is the biggest threat to Western civilization and Western values. EU must stop buying gas and oil from Russia. Only then Russia will stop spreading war in Europe. Only then Europe will become a peaceful place to live again. While Lithuania and Poland decreasing independence from Russia's influence, Germany though increasing its dependence from Russia's energy recourses. The biggest EU economy fully depends on Russia. That's very disappointing. Only three countries in the EU following the conscience whilst others like Austria, Hungary, Germany, Italy are "flirting" with the Kremlin.

In 1991, when the Soviet Union collapsed, power remained concentrated in a few hands. The government was not really accountable to anyone. Despite this underlying reality, everything was arranged so that it all appeared to be moving in the direction of democratic capitalism and proper checks and balances, but nothing of the kind ever happened. The objective of making changes in the first place was to fool the West.
