  3. Not all states allow "citizen's arrest". And the Georgia statute -- which they invoked LATER -- was enacted in 1873 in reaction to Lincoln's "Emancipation Proclamation," as authorizing "slave catching".

As examples, the judge restricted the prosecution to characterizing those shot as "rioters, looters, and arsonists" -- even though there was NO EVIDENCE -- either inside or outside court -- that those shot were any of those things. And then his racist musing about "lunch"": "I hope the Asian food doesn't arrive by boat." And then there's Rittenhouse himself: he crossed the state line, with an illegal gun, to go to a city where he had no business, to "protect property" from racially-profiled Black Lives Matter". And what did the abundantly-present law enforcement do about the shooting? Nothing. He was only arrested, days later, back at home in his home state.
