@rwilloughbyjames You exaggerate the scope of Big Pharma fundings. But I certainly agree that the health "care" industry is broken: illness is profitable, health is not. The greater the illness, often iatrogenic, the greater the profit.

@rwilloughbyjames There's no benefit in "wellness" except for those with significant income. Big Tobacco was the only industry protected by law from personal injury lawsuits. That is gone now, but that same basic protection has been provided the gun industry. As an elder I deal constantly with the health "care" industry and its exploitation of the "less deserving".

@rwilloughbyjames In my state, said to be the "health care Mecca of the United States, there is a Patients Rights Law -- neither enforced nor complied with. Most/all of the medical facilities are teaching hospitals, and satellite neighborhood "clinics" of theirs. The state law required that the facilities post the law in the facilities -- they do not. They are also required to give the patient a copy of it -- they do not. The law gives patients the right NOT to be treated by students, and NOT to be used in research without their permission. The system keeps patients "stupid" in order to be able to exploit them because their focus is not on patient care but instead on student education. On one hand the facilities gain from tuition monies, and on the other, Medicaid and Medicare monies. And the retaliations for complaining about substandard "care" or abuse -- for complaining -- is traumatizing. That's the health "care" system in the US.

Yep: "people" need to be scientists instead of living their lives. There is a lot of hucksterism in the supplements industry. Most people -- including YOU -- are not qualified to distinguish between efficacious and fraudulent. Those who oppose "regulation" are too stupid to know that "regulation" is LAW. It is what LAW DOES. If humans were perfect, no law would be needed. Humans are imperfect, and some are sociopathic criminals, so law -- "regulation" -- is necessary to protect the law-abiding. The foremost responsibility of gov't is to protect public health and safety.

Ever stopped to THINK that perhaps the gov't shouldn't regulate the poor in order to protect the status quo of not regulating the powerful? If you vote for Republicans who preach against "regulation" -- while giving massive tax cuts to those who don't need them -- then you are voting to cut your own throat. Believe it: if the Republicans told you "anti-regulation" dupes to cut your throats, you'd rush out to buy knives with which to do it. And you would have to, because the Republicans only give the orders to you: they don't provide you the means if it might cost them.

The foremost responsibility of gov't is to protect public health and safety. "People" need to be SCIENTISTS in order to know what they are putting in their bodies. After all, dunce, one does not otherwise know whether the CLAIMS made about UNREGULATED substances are TRUE. And we know YOU aren't a scientist. You're just another dunce who rejects the rule of law based on the word of CHARLATANS.
